Plans for our trip to Florida included Sue and Karli. They rode with us to Jacksonville where we dropped them off at Megabus station. Then they went to Orlando for a few days. On Monday they took a Greyhound bus to Pensacola to join us for a day before we all made our way back to Maryland in the minivan.
This is moments after we arrived at our hotel in Florida. Mom and Dad, who drove from Houston to spend a few days with us pulled in just about 5 minutes later. We headed to Cracker Barrel (conveniently located across the street from the hotel) for dinner.
During our week-long stay, there was more rain than sun, but we took advantage of the beach as much as we could!
Mike still had to be at school on Thursday and Friday so we decided to take in some of the sights on Pensacola Naval Station.
This is the oldest light house on the Gulf Coast.
The kids listened to a few quick facts from this docent and learned the proper etiquette for climbing the very narrow stairs all the way to the top.
Here we are in the stairwell.
At the top looking out over Pensacola Bay and the Gulf beyond. Jonas was super nervous and hugged the side of the light house as we walked all the way around.
Another trip to the movies to see Zootopia. There were giant Easter eggs outside the movie theater.
One of the days it was raining we went to the National Aviation Museum.
Pensacola is the home of the Blue Angels.
Dying Easter eggs in the condo.
Easter baskets on Easter morning.
Flying kites on the beach. In the rain. At least we had the beach mostly to ourselves.
Here are two pictures of the kids swimming with the dolphins.
Judith found not one in-tact sand dollar, but TWO! Sadly, she accidentally broke the first one. She was so sad. I emphasized that she was REALLY lucky to find the first one and was not likely to find another.
However, in just a few minutes she came back with another one. Amazing!
Sue was gracious enough to attempt some family pictures of us.
Mike took Judith on a date to get some ice cream.
An early morning goodbye and a 16 hour drive ahead of us.
