Carnival

Oh goodness. It's been a WHILE since I posted. This is just a hodge podge of pics I've taken here and there.

This was taken on Judith's 11 month birthday. She is so sweet right now.
I was taking some pics in the back yard and this one was so hilarious because I actually snapped it like a milisecond before Ezra sneezed. Cracks me up!
Mr. Jonas
Such a great picture of the boys! I'm the one who looks silly.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!
Me and my big boy!

Ezra and Jonas.

The following are all photos I took when we went to the Carnival parade in Ramstein. I thought the "parade" was pretty silly, but apparently it's the biggest one in our region and there were a ton of people there. However, it stalled out several times for a few minutes and about half (?) way through it stopped for like 20 or 30 minutes. The kids had had enough so we bailed early.

Many folks were dressed in costume. Carnival in Germany is akin to an American Halloween even though it's actually the same holiday as Carnivale in Italy. There it's celebrated differently still. These German witches were happy to have their picture taken with us. Jonas was a little nervous.

For 2 Euro, I bought a parade pin from this clown. The money went to support the parade and the pin provided entry to the Haus des Burgers (not a burger joint, but a community and cultural center), where there was an oompah band. We never made it over there though. The double stroller (plus 1 walker) was pretty cumbersome on the streets and moving through the crowds.
Their first candy.

Minnie Mice? I think the lady's scarf is from Kaiserslautern's (the closest big city) soccer team.

These were dudes. Most of the parade participants were drinking.

These fish ladies were my favorites.

Several times the parade paticipants together with the crowd would repeat a 2 syllable chant/salute. I don't remember exactly how it went but it involved bending the arm at the elbow with 1 syllable and then straightening it with the second syllable. It was strangely reminiscent of a certain German dictator's salute. Kind of eerie to be in the midst of a mob participating en masse.
These girls were beind the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" float.

This float was from our village--Miesenbach.

On the way back to the car from the parade. The hats were our attempt at a last-minute costume.

Judith eatin' a strawberry.

Judith. 10 1/2 months.

Jonas. Yes--it's been warm(ish) and sunny for the past couple of weeks. We're loving the outside time.

Silly boy. There's a gap in between those two bushes that he was popping out of.

More backyard fun for Judith.

A quick trip to Metz, France (just an hour and a half a way).

This video is just some random back yard conversation. I started recording to show Judith pushing the car, but then it seemed like a good idea to show some of the boys on there as well. It's long (for the benefit of the grandparents).
