We celebrated President's Day 2014 in style with a trip to the home of our first president: George Washington.
We followed a band of Masons down to Washington's tomb where they did a short laying-of-the-wreath ceremony.
These folks were making some period fare: chicken pudding. Laws
prohibited them from letting us try it, but they assured us it wouldn't
go to waste.
Some live music.
In line for our tour.
This tree was huge! I loved the plaque. Planted by George Washington?! So cool!
This was inside the visitors center. There was a short film (narrated by Pat Sajak) about Mt. Vernon and then another film about Washington's life. They were pretty well done in my opinion. The kids stayed interested at any rate.
Ezra was in a bad mood nearly the whole time. I was glad we got 1 picture of him smiling...
As we left Mt. Vernon and drove along the shore of the Potomac River, we spotted a bald eagle! It was in the top of a tree directly over a pedestrian path so we were able to walk right under him. It was amazing!
Jonas says, "Shhh!"
