Mike had to go on an exercise/class with some folks in his squadron. It was pretty hard core. They camped out for a week in the German forest and played war games. From Monday utnil Wednesday, he got about 3 hours of good sleep and they didn't have any showers all week. Gross! I took the kids and traveled the 9 1/2 hours down to Aviano to see friends. But before we left, I got to have some spa treatments with the girls from Bible study. Here's a pic of us at the spa.

The drive down was a dream. The kids were ablsolutely perfect. We only stopped once for gas/dinner/clothes change. The trip home wasn't quite so enjoyable, but the kids were still pretty good for being in the car for that long.

While in Italy, we went to the zoo. It was cold, windy, and a little rainy, but we made the best of it. Jonas was a happy camper. Ezra didn't enjoy it as much as I thought he would, but I think he was cold most of the time.

These are two of the castles we passed in Austria.

On the playground.

Eating birthday cake.

On Saturday, we went to visit our Romanian friends Ben and Emilia in their town, Oderzo. They fixed us a lovely, traditional Romanian meal and took us on a walk around their town. Scarlet baked me a egg free, dairy free cake for my birthday so we did the birthday thing there too. :)

Elisa and I took the kids to this spot on the river where there's a pool and a statue of Jesus is supposed to be on the bottom. You can only see it at certain times of the day when the sunlight hits the water just right, so we missed it. The kids enjoyed watching the giant fish swim around in the clear water though.

I went up to Cavasso Nuovo (the village we lived in) to visit my American friends Andrea and Shelly, and my Italian neighbors.

Ezra and Jonas loved chasing bubbles in Scarlet's yard. In once pic, they have a couple of bubbles trapped on the grass.

Here's some pics of our birthday. I say, "our" birthday because I share a bday with Susan from our Bible study group and her husband's is the day before. So we did a joint celebration with tulips out of Rachel's yard and delicious apple tart thingys.
